This is a samurai-based anime, where mini stories illustrate the importance of humility, friendship, honesty, respect and other forgotten virtues of modern-day society. In no means is this an anime where (hot) guys get up on horses and start attacking people, it is set in mainly two places. Karakura town in modern-day Japan, and Soul Society, which is where the ’samurais’ come from.

They fight demons to protect the living from vengeful beings, send the souls of the righteous to heaven and fight each other when there is need to. Whilst it may seem pretty serious most of the time, there are spots of humour when the main characters fail to comprehend each others’ stupidity or strange habits. It is mainly a drama anime – as are all – and this theme prevails through the most of the current 251 episodes as of December 26th 2009.
It may seem like a lot, but it is a worthwhile watch and really struck true in my heart.
